1) Inspecting the locking system

Before you undertake the repair job, inspecting the locking system will give you sufficient information about the function of the lock, the version, and the necessary tools to open it. Note down the equipment you would require during the repair so you do not have to back to the tools storage room to collect the needed device. 

uPVC door locks come in a wide range; thus, knowing the version of the lock is essential before you disassemble it from the door. Also, check the brand that manufactures the lock. You must look for the replacement part from the brand retail shop. 

In the case of an old uPVC door lock, you may not find the replacement part in the local hardware store. You may have to order it directly from the factory.

Besides that, the uPVC door-locking system will have different styles, such as pins, deadbolts, etc. The intricacy of the lock would be different depending on the type. The design of the lock cylinder is universal; hence, you can easily replace it with a new lock cylinder.

2) Keep the door open

It should keep an eye on both sides of the faceplate to ensure the other side of the lock is not damaged while removing it.

3) Take the Measurement

All the uPVC locking system comes in two standard size and shapes. Taking measurements of the lock before unlocking it would give you a better understanding of the lock system and its parts. Check the connection point and handle of the doors—secondly, the center of the circular portion where the keyhole is located. Measure the backset space as well.

As per the standard locking measurement, the backset will have 35 millimeters, and PZ will be 92 millimeters. The length of the locking cylinder will vary depending on the size and shape of the locking system.

4) Remove the screw and replace the cylinder

Locate the faceplate and find the screw. You would need specialized screwdrivers to remove it. Twist it and retain the screwdriver in the position. Slow loosen it and remove it from the lock.

Once the screws are removed, gently pull the cylinder out from the locking system. You may have to wiggle it to clear the dust and dirt trapped in the gap. Once the cylinder comes out, put it in a safe place. 

5) Inserting the new cylinder

Before inserting the new cylinder, use the original lock key to check if the key is working correctly. After that, clean the hole where the cylinder was fixed. Remove the dirt and dust particles before injecting the new cylinder. Now gently push the cylinder inside the lock and set the screw back in place, and you are done with the cylinder replacement.
